The study on participating effects of the self-help group for alcoholics

Abstract
This study compares and analyzes participants and non-participants of the alcoholics self-help group linked with the Cheongju Public Health Center. It aims to prove the effects of the participation of the self-help group for alcoholics.
Research was made on 28 participants of the alcoholics self-help group linked with the Cheongju Public Health Center who were participating in activities with more than 3 months and 28 non-participants who are living in the local community. The relevant data were collected through an interview while visiting individual houses.
According to analysis on the difference of the drinking quantity between participants and non-participants, it show that participants and non-participants statistically significantly differ from the drinking quantity such as drinking quantity and frequency of heavy drinking.
In the analysis of correlation between drinking quantity and the self esteem, the satisfaction on daily life, the satisfaction on family relationship and the satisfaction on social relationship, it was found to have a significant negative correlation statistically between the self esteem and drinking quantity at one time. And the satisfaction on family relationship was correlated statistically significantly with drinking frequency, drinking quantity at one time and heavy drinking frequency, the satisfaction on social relationship was correlated statistically significantly with drinking quantity at one time. Whereas the satisfaction on daily life was correlated statistically significantly with drinking frequency.
As done for the first time in Korea regarding the alcoholics self-help group linked with public health center, this study shows that a participating of a general self-help group has positive effects on recovering from alcoholic addition.
